Is This What’s Preventing Your Agency From Growing?

What got you here won’t get you there. This is probably true for 70% of people, and 30% of people already have what they need to get there because they’re wired differently.

For most people, the things that you have done to get to the place you are aren’t the same things that it will take to grow from where you are. For example, most agencies are founded by somebody who’s good at one piece of marketing. You build an agency around your skill at a service rate. As the agency grows, all of a sudden, you have to transition from being a great marketer to being a company leader.

You need an entirely different set of skills. Knowing how to manipulate a negative keyword list in Google AdWords doesn’t matter when you’re trying to help your developer, your head of services, your EA, or your reporting manager create something that’s worthwhile for the clients. As the organization grows, your focus changes. There is a day, usually somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 a month in revenue, that you have to make the total shift to thinking that the team you lead is the most important thing, not your clients.
